Whether you are a passenger in a vehicle, the driver, a cyclist or a pedestrian, if the accident occurred on the road, it is a Road Traffic Accident (RTA). It is important that following an accident, you are medically assessed, either by a GP or taken to hospital by ambulance if required. You may require x-rays or a scan or surgery or simply be kept in for observation for a while. Either way, it is better to be sure that you are OK. The other important point is to obtain as much information as possible, assuming you are able to. It is useful to establish the identity of the person who caused the accident including their vehicle registration number, insurance details, name and address, etc. Also, if there were any witnesses, make a note of their details. It is possible the police will be called to the accident scene and they will carry out most of this investigation. You should obtain a note from the police confirming the point of contact so the other details can be obtained from them when required. |
